Project Title: The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor Water System Improvements
Project Location: City of Bayonne, Hudson County, New Jersey
Project Sponsor: Bayonne Municipal Utilities Authority
The objective of this project is to implement the first stage improvement of the water distribution system for the Peninsula
at Bayonne harbor as recommended within the "Bayonne Municipal Utilities Authority, Hudson County, New Jersey, Water System Master Plan for the Peninsula at
Bayonne Harbor (MOTBY)." The completion of this project will improve the reliability and capacity of the water distribution system necessary for redevelopment
of the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor (formerly the Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne). the proposed Bayonne Water Main Extension Project will include the
design and construction of a 16 inch HDPE pipe by directional drilling across the cove, from Le Fante Way to Pulaski Street, and to existing mains entering
the peninsula from the City.
Amy Greene Environmental was contracted to obtain environmental agency approvals for the water
line extension project. Amy Greene Environmental performed a detailed wetland delineation for the project site in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental
Protection (NJDEP) methodology under NJ Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act and US Army Corps of Engineers requirements under the Clean Water Act.
The project proposed to avoid impacts to the Hudson River, the adjacent cove and associated wetlands by directional drilling beneath the cover.
In order for the project to be eligible for funding from the United States Environmental
Protection Agency (USEPA) and NJDEP, Our Team prepared the required environmental assessment documentation of potential beneficial and adverse impacts of the
proposed project. A Level I Environmental Review Document was prepared for submission to NJDEP, and an Environmental Information Document was prepared for
submission to USEPA. Amy Greene Environmental prepared successful applications to NJDEP for a Waterfront Development Permit and to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
for a Section 10 permit to approve the proposed water line installation.
