Project Title: Federal Air Marshal Training Facility, Atlantic City International Airport Project Location: Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey Project Sponsor: Office of Law Enforcement Federal Air Marshal Service Client: CDM Constructors, Inc.
The Office of Law Enforcement Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) proposes to construct a new training support facility within the existing Federal Air Marshal Training Center (FAMTC) operational area on the east campus of the William J. Hughes Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey. The purpose of this project is to build a new support facility to replace existing antiquated and undersized structures. CDM contracted Amy Greene Environmental. (AGE) to provide Pinelands Commission permitting services, including wetland and threatened and endangered species habitat investigations.
AGE performed a preliminary wetland investigation on and within 300 feet of the project area in November 2011. Regulated wetlands were not identified on or within 300-feet of the project area. AGE also conducted threatened and endangered species habitat assessments for Cooper’s hawk, barred owl, Pine Barrens treefrog, northern pine snake, Pine Barrens gentian, narrow-leaved vervain, Pine Barrens reedgrass; swamp pink, Knieskern’s beaked rush, Pine Barrens bellwort and Pine Barrens boneset. AGE then prepared a NJ Pinelands Commission Public Development Approval (PDA) application and facilitated the approval of the PDA. The project required coordination with the FAMS, design engineer, and the Pinelands Commission. With the exception of Cooper’s hawk, rare, threatened and endangered species habitat was not present. AGE successfully demonstrated that the project was designed to avoid irreversible adverse impacts on habitats that are critical to the survival of any local populations of Cooper’s hawk. The application for Public Development Approval was subsequently approved by the Pinelands Commission.
